The Birkbeck Women in Sport Scholarship

The Department of Management at Birkbeck is delighted to offer the inaugural edition of the Birkbeck Women in Sport Scholarship. The purpose of the scholarship is to benefit a female Home/EU student enrolled on the MSc Sport Management; MSc Sport Management and Business of Football; MSc Sport Management and Marketing; MSc Sport Management, Governance and Policy or MSc Sport Marketing.

The Edwards Scholarship is part of a wider initiative at Birkbeck to foster women’s participation in the sport industry. The Scholarship is generously funded by Birkbeck alumni Tim Edwards and his partner Elizabeth Edwards. Elizabeth is Director of Ipswich Town plc as well as Supporter Liaison Officer; Tim is an Associate Director of Ipswich Town plc. Together, they are co-founders of the Ipswich Town Heritage Society. They are passionate about increasing the number of women working in football and sport more generally.

Tim explained, ‘Women remain underrepresented in senior management roles in the football industry. The Birkbeck MSc course provides a great opportunity for women to pursue their love of sport and progress professionally in this most fascinating and challenging of industries’.
