Sport Governance – ‘Best Case Study Award’ – Collaboration with UK Sport

image3The Birkbeck Sport Business Centre and the governance team at UK Sport have recently collaborated in regard to the Sport Governance and Regulation module, a key module that all students studying on the MSc Sport Management programmes are required to take. Working in groups, part of the module assessment required that the students produce a written report on the organisational structure and internal governance mechanisms of a sport organisation. The report was intended to allow the students to draw on relevant academic literature as well as prescriptive guidelines on corporate governance in order to make recommendations for governance reform. The governance team at UK Sport looked at the reports produced by the students and awarded a ‘Best Case Study Award’ for the report that critically examined the governance structures of the Football Association. The image above pictures the students from the winning group with Dr Geoff Walters and Sean Hamil from the Birkbeck Sport Business Centre, alongside Joy Johnston, Governance Manager at UK Sport, at the offices of UK Sport.
