The Routledge Handbook of Sport and Corporate Social Responsibility

Over the past two years, Dr Geoff Walters from the Birkbeck Sport Business Centre has been involved in co-editing the Routledge Handbook of Sport and Corporate Social Responsibility, alongside Dr Juan Luis Paramio-Salcines, Senior Lecturer in Sport Management at Universidad Autonoma de Madrid, and Dr Kathy Babiak, Associate Professor of Sport Management at the University of Michigan. The handbook, published in July 2013, is the first to offer a comprehensive analysis of key issues in CSR with a specific focus on the sport industry.

While many sport organizations have, over the past few decades, engaged in various initiatives that take a corporate responsibility stance, such as philanthropy, community involvement, educational activities and health initiatives, this handbook is structured in a way that introduces the reader to key issues drawn from mainstream academic literature and applies them to the sport industry. Issues that are analysed include CSR implementation, stakeholder engagement, the communication of CSR initiatives, and the measurement and evaluation of CSR policies and practices. It brings together leading sport management scholars to present a range of detailed international case studies to show how sport organisations are addressing these issues.
