Synopsis

Alex Fynn, as a Director of Saatchi & Saatchi, helped produce the first advertising campaign for a football club for Tottenham Hotspur back in the 1980s. In the 1990s he worked closely with the Football League, Premier League and Football Association on a number of projects.

During this period he had first hand experience of a number of England managers, namely, Bobby Robson, Graham Taylor, Terry Venables, Glenn Hoddle, Sven Goran Eriksson, Fabio Capello and Sam Allardyce. In this presentation Alex will present his assessment that key policy decisions by England’s football authorities negatively impacted on the England national team’s chances of international success, and that these decisions continue to undermine the national team’s potential for success to this day. He will conclude by making some recommendations for a clearer, more focused, strategic vision for the national team which he believes is a sine qua non if the English national team is to fulfill the potential of the current very talented crop of England players.
