Our Master's programmes in Sport Management and the Business of Football are designed for graduates and practitioners who wish to develop a rigorous understanding of the commercial development and management of sport, with particular reference to football. The programmes draw on the expertise of the staff of the Birkbeck Sport Business Centre which is one of the world's leading centres for sport business and football research, teaching, training, consultancy and policy advice Amongst our work, BSBC staff have been responsible for producing two of the best known texts on sport management (Trenberth, Managing the Business of Sport; Beech and Chadwick, The Business of Sport Management; Beech and Chadwick, The Marketing of Sport). Our other publications also include Hamil , Michie and Oughton ( eds ) A Game of Two Halves? Combining specialist taught courses on the principles and practice of sport management, strategic sport marketing, and the economics and governance of sport with general training in management, business organization, strategy and research methods, the programmes provide a solid grounding in the most important aspects of sport business management.

Students also complete a dissertation on an aspect of the sport industry or football and will be supervised by a member of the Birkbeck Sport Business Centre.

The Business of the Sports Seminar Series

In addition to the prescribed course material for the programme students are advised to attend the Business of Sports seminar series. This runs weekly in term time on Wednesday evenings. It is designed to provide a forum for debate on key management challenges facing the sports industries amongst academics researching the sector, professional managers in the industry, and students on the postgraduate Sports Management & the Business of Football programme.
