Andy Harvey

Andy Harvey LLB, MSc (Econ), MA.  Doctoral student, Department of Psychosocial Studies, Birkbeck College, University of London.

Andy Harvey is currently a Teaching Assistant in the Department for Psychosocial Studies, Birkbeck College, University of London. He has over twenty years experience working in the labour movement and voluntary sector. From Thames Valley University, where he worked as a senior lecturer in law, he became National Education Officer for the General Federation of Trade Unions in 1997. In 2004 he established his own company, Andy Harvey Education and Training Consultancy which specialises in research, strategy and education in workplace and social issues.  His clients have included the International Labour Organisation, the TUC, FIFPRo, the world professional football players union, the Musicians Union and the Novas Scarman Trust.

He became a founder Director of HIVsport in 2007 where he has brokered partnerships with the League Managers Association and Professional Footballers Association.  He is also a member of the 2012 London Olympics Sexual Health Planning Group. Andy has a law degree and MSc in Industrial Relations from the London School of Economics and has recently been awarded an MA in Gender Studies from Birkbeck College. He is currently researching a Ph.D research into sport gender and sexuality with special reference to homophobia in sport. He has had articles accepted for publication by international peer reviewed journals thirdspace and Sexualities Journal. He is currently working on article on the place of sport in the Victorian novel Tom Brown's Schooldays.
